HINTS | 2009 | TIPS

Sticks, rings and training - The Academy recommend decent suppliers of equipment, especially when we’re talking of wooden tools. We have found white wax-wood to be superb for interactive training.

A Boxing influence - Pads, bags, wall-bags, all have a root in general boxing techniques, and many schools in China referred to students as boxers. We call the fist ‘kuen’, or ‘chuan’ in mandarin. Most older styles utilize ways to receive its own fist methods, and two-men drills assist the student. Its how to ‘hold’ the pads that’s important too!

Wooden Men - Training on a traditional piece of equipment, such as the Wing Chun Mook Yan Jong is to refine all motion to its simple form. The conditioning alone is worth the time and bruises! Be careful and precise to avoid the pitfalls of damaged bones. Invest is some personal tuition and try never to hit the wooden man in anger as it’s known to cause you injuries!
