This simple module offers a basic Self-Defence program, including central and straight-line theories, cultivating hands postures for pushing and pulling and neutralizing techniques for take-downs and manipulation. A good Foundation will increase your chances of developing well. All new students start with an initial 4 week Induction.

The basis of The Yum Yeurng Academy teachings, a good foundation assists in future growth for all students. While learning the practicalities of simple technique, general Martial Art methods are covered. A real eye-opener for the Wing Chun enthusiast!

Here is a basic example of literature used at The Academy during a Foundation module. The larger characters translates as ‘Students of Lee Shing Association’, making a direct reference to our Grandmaster. Within the small print are methods to practice, including ‘Gaan Sau Toi Wan’ and ‘Fook Bong Cum Lar’. Presented here for the first time with thanks to our teacher, Master Joseph Man.

HINTS | 2009 | TIPS

Learn how to observe - Whilst watching a movement, focus attention to at least five areas of the body; eyes, hands, shoulders, waist and legs. It is a combination of these elements that help generate powerful motion!

Ask yourself questions - Every time a new technique is delivered, ask yourself how did I get here? Am I comfortable? Only ask your coach a question at designated times, don’t interrupt training with chat! When you gain confidence in your application, ask your body to revise on its own. This is a unique ‘Yum Yeurng’ concept.

Techniques are limitless - Within all Martial Art styles there are individuals that have trained enough to know they could easily submerge themselves for years with the techniques they know. Concentrate on a few, then four to eight should be your maximum to start with. Applications become natural in many circumstances once the foundation is complete.
